Team Rudra Racing,
the SAE collegiate club of NMIT which is composed of 12 students from the final
year batch of Mechanical Engineering at the Institute, has built a Student
Formula car in just 40 days.
This
Student Formula Car, which cost Rs. 3
lakhs to build has been designed and fabricated in compliance with the FSAE
rules and guidelines, and has also been tested under the standard testing
conditions. It has a unique but simple
camber and toe adjustment mechanism, and suspension pre-load adjustment for all
four wheels. The Ride Height Adjuster has three levels of adjustment, considering
the track conditions, comfort and safety of the driver.
The
car has been designed for a gross weight of 400kg considering the driver, which
provides a high power to weight ratio making it ideal for racing. This was
achieved through the design, analysis and fabrication of a tubular space-frame
chassis. An independent double wish-bone suspension system of unequal length
A-Arms was designed and analyzed through Multi Body Dynamics tools and later
fabricated. Quick release mechanism was adopted for the steering system. The
car was tested on ideal road conditions and the performance was found in
compliance with the SAE Standards.
