ABSTRACT: In a race car, handling
plays a key role in the performance of the vehicle. A good suspension, steering
and braking system controls the effective handling of the car. Effective
braking system leads to better stopping of the car and optimum energy
dissipation in the process. Rack and Pinion steering system was opted and Analysis
was carried out for the rack and pinion system and its relevant parameters and
the graphs were plotted. Brake rotor and the caliper were designed, thermal and
stress analysis was carried out. Dual circuit master cylinder was implemented
to make it fail safe. Upright was designed and analyzed for the loads acting on
it, which acts as the load carrying member for steering rod, A-arms, suspension,
etc. FRP was selected for the body work of the car owing to its high strength
to weight ratio, resistance to deformation and corrosion.
